Drumming is a great passion of mine. I have been playing drums for nearly 20 years, starting in Middle School. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience many different aspects of drumming, from playing in the concert setting to percussion ensembles to marching band. However over the last decade I have been focused as a drum set player.
Throughout my career as a musician, I have played in various genres: primary focused in Modern and Classic Rock, but I have also have experience in Jazz, Ska, Funk, Christian Contemporary & Praise, Hard Rock/Metal, Reggae and even a little Country. I’m always up for new challenges and appreciate the opportunities to expand my musical knowledge.
Skills & Areas of Focus
Before I was drumming I came from a piano-playing background, which gave me the ability to play mallet instruments, but most importantly understand music theory. I can read charts and am an effective sight-reader. I can pick up on songs very quickly, and always am willing to put in the practice on my own time to make sure that I’m not letting the group down.
My biggest gift is my ability to blend in tastefully with virtually any music scenario. With my instrument, I love to add rich textures and colors to music, but without detracting too much from the focus of the song. My ability to maintain the tempo and keep "in the pocket" – a must for any drummer – is precise.
Influences
Amongst my biggest musical influences is Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band. I have grown to admire his approach to drumming. Other great influences are Stewart Copeland (the Police), Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting), Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).
I love all genres of music, from modern rock to pop, to rap & hip-hop, to jazz, to country and even classical music. Check out my Last.FM Profile to see who are amongst my favorite artists.
Additional Abilities
I am also energized by the promotional aspect of a band/project. I have an extensive background in web/graphic design and enjoy applying it to my projects. I am also very experienced in social media technologies and using them to promote a band and interact with fans. I also have experience in booking shows along the Front Range, as well as creating Press Kits (along with EPK’s).
Current Status
I am currently looking to get involved with another project. I am very flexible, but some ideal traits for me would include:
- An already-established project/band that is looking for a replacement drummer, or needs drummer to step in to enable a band to play out as soon as possible – if many songs are already written, that would be awesome
- A band that’s is looking to get dialed-in in terms of promotion. I would love to help where I can, but if you have experience with Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, etc), that’s right up my ally
- A band that is looking for a rehearsal pattern of 1x per week. I’d be happy to do 2x per week out the gate, but a continuing schedule of 1x per week would be helpful (I’ll commit to putting in the time in between).
- A band that is looking to play out 2-4 times per month, with shows mainly located in the Northern Colorado/Denver area.
- A band that has a rehearsal space, as I unfortunately cannot provide one. I would be willing to contribute my part towards a paid rehearsal space if the band rents one.
I would be open to any genre, however metal in particular would require some extra work on my part, as I may not be an ideal fit though. I believe I could fit into many other genres, including modern/alternative rock, hard rock, hip-hop, funk and jazz.
I am based out of Fort Collins, but am willing to commute for rehearsals and shows. In my time with Greenfoot I commuted to Thornton at least 1x per week for 4 years, so this is nothing new to me.
