I'm a Program Manager on the Photo Gallery team and would like to get to the bottom of this. Would you mind sending me an email (just remove the 'nospam' bit from the address I provided) and please include as much detail about what the issue including any error messages/codes. By the way, just to assure you, WLPG can definitely handle a lot more than 20k files so that shouldn't be an issue. I personally have over 50k in my own collection, but we've stress tested the gallery to many 100's of thousands of images without a sweat.
